Personal Care Attendants

At Hill Country Care Providers we can proudly boast about our caregivers and their training. We have the only "Certified Geriatric Caregivers" a standard that sets our team above employees at other agencies or facilities. Then each caregiver undergoes an additional 20 hours of training by our gerontologist before they can work with any of our clients. (The State of Texas only mandates a yearly training of four hours.) Additionally, each caregiver has monthly in-service training where they receive up-to-date training in other areas of care.

All of our caregivers pass a strict background and motor vehicle check and are insured and bonded through Hill Country Care Providers. Our staff are offered the option of medical insurance as part of our employment package of benefits.

In your home, our caregivers perform a variety of duties including:

  • Personal care such as bathing, dressing, preparing meals, assisting with eating, grooming, performing hygiene tasks, incontinence care or providing dental care
  • Transfers in and out of bed, wheelchair, motor vehicles or bathroom needs
  • Light housekeeping and laundry
  • Medication reminders
  • Transportation to physician appointments, dentists, shopping or errands
  • Kitchen cleanup, including taking out the garbage, washing dishes or tidying up
  • Accompanying clients to family or social functions
  • Cognitive activities such as conversation, playing cards or games, assisting with puzzles, crafts or hobbies
  • Alzheimers or Parkinson's care
  • Spiritual activities that encompass singing, walking outside and accompanying to church
  • Family Respite
  • Companionship, including watching movies or favorite television shows together
  • Physical activities incorporating stretching exercises, chair exercises, range of motion or prescribed physical therapy exercises

Geriatric Case Management

Families living across the country or even the county find the geriatric case manager an invaluable resource for overseeing and implementing the care of a loved one. Our GCMs are registered nurses or gerontologists and are skilled at identifying needs and overseeing care. Some of their common duties and goals include:

  • Conduct care planning assessments to identify problems
  • Provide an in-home environmental assessment
  • Screen, arrange and monitor in home assistance or other services
  • Provide crisis intervention
  • Review financial, legal or medical issues and offer referrals to other geriatric specialists to avoid future problems and conserve assets
  • Act as a liaison to families at a distance and alerting them to problems
  • Provide consumer education and advocacy

Medication Management

A licensed nurse will review medications and set pills in dispensing boxes for the ease and safety of your loved one.

Failure to properly take medications is one of the greatest safety issues our elderly face. The average Texas elder person takes more than 18 medications and this sheer number of prescriptions can be easily overwhelming. Missing the proper dosage can quickly lead to increased confusion or other severe medical issues. Our nurses will review the medications with your physician, verify refills and prepare the boxes either bi-weekly or weekly and report any issues arise.

Respite and/or Vacation Care

Hill Country Care Providers is proud to offer families seeking short-term care for their loved one a special program to allow them to get away for a few hours or weeks with a minimal amount of worry. Let our professionals care for your loved one while you are away and enjoy your vacation or shopping trip knowing the best of care is assisting you.
